These photos show the personalities of all three of my cats. The demure one, the paranoid one, and the one who won't hold still for a photo...

69th Day of Summer

About ten days ago, my daughters and I attended the baby shower of a good friend.

This evening, this young friend had her baby - more than a week early.

Her precious new son is over eight pounds and is as healthy as can be. Same with Mom.

This is the cake that the baby's grandma made for the shower...

Anthony Noah - welcome to the world! :)

68th Day of Summer

Yesterday turned out to be another beach day.

When my kids were young (and home), we went to the beach several times each summer. But in recent years, I'm lucky if I get there at all.

Last week before our youngest daughter headed back to NY, she told me she wanted a day with me at the beach. It was the first time I'd gone all summer, and I figured it would be the last.

But then yesterday my friend Becky, and I, realized we had about four morning hours to spare, so we packed up and got to Popham just as they opened.

It was heaven. As you can see by the photos, the tide was out and we practically had the place to ourselves. We walked for what seemed like miles. The temperature was in the upper 70s and there was a slight sea breeze.

We wanted to stay all day. But alas, duty called, and we left by noon.

As we took the last photo you'll see here, we said to each other, "Wouldn't it be a hoot if we drove over here once a week all year just to take a photo?" We laughed and then we thought - hey, we should really make that happen. Who knows if we will, but that's our plan. I'll let you know how it works out. When I told my husband about it, he said, "Yeah, hope springs eternal on the beach in the summertime." That annoyed me, so now I'm DETERMINED to do it. :)

So here you go - more Popham photos for your viewing pleasure.

Our daughter and her roommate at McDonald's, playing a children's video game. They got the highest score on the game by about 3,000,000 points. They were very excited to beat out all the 5-year-olds in town. Such bright college students. :)

42nd Day of Summer

August is here.

I began this "days of summer" thing on June 21 as a whim. I thought it would be fun and I needed something to keep me on task with regular posting. Summertime is the hardest because although it's the time when all the good stuff happens in Maine, it's also a busy time when I tend to be out doing rather than just writing about it.

And now I find that by counting the days, I've given myself a whole new perspective.

Ever since I was a little girl, I've thought of June, July and August as summertime. While growing up, school never lasted much past the first of June, and we didn't go back until after Labor Day.

Now that I'm all grown up and no longer live by a school schedule (that's not really true since two of my children are still in college)... ANYWAY. Now that I'm supposedly all grown up, I still think of August as the last month of summer, as if we're on the home stretch. For the school kids, we are. But for the rest of us, and for them too actually, summer goes well beyond the bounds of August.

I realized that today as I typed out the "42nd day of summer." There are about 90 days of summer, so as of August 1st, we're not even halfway there!

I don't know about you, but that is some HAPPY news in my book. :)
